We all have heard the phrase "Facts tell and stories sell", but is this true?
Do people really want to know what special ingredient you have in your super juice that has been measured exactly to the ounce or are they more inclined to hear a great story of how that same product has helped a wife nurse her husband back to good health.
As a network marketer are you presenting facts or are you telling stories when presenting your home base business? The late Jim Rohn once said," Become a good story teller because, it is one of the best ways to illustrate what you are trying to get across". If you have ever been to a network marketing or MLM presentation business meeting, the presenter always told an awesome story.
I mean they grab their audience attention and sometimes have people on the edge of their seats. See they know the importance of telling a story instead of trying to sell facts and money, which is what most people try to do when presenting. So what does it take to be a good story teller? How can you package your story and have people raising their hands wanting to take part?
Well to be honest with you, it's not that hard and you can start to put this into action today. So here are 3 tips you can use when telling stories about your home base business:
Tip # 1 -Practice your story.
Before you go out into the market place and share your particular story with potential customers or business partners make sure you have practiced your story. The worst thing you can do is get confused or twisted up with your own story about your business. This can leave some doubt in your audience mind because you may seem to be unclear about what you are talking about. So practicing telling your story to your spouse, a friend, or even yourself as you look in the mirror. This will make your story become a reflex reaction to you. The more you do it the better it will become. As they say, repetition is the mother of skill. If you do not have a personal story of your own, use someone else's story, either a customer or a business partner.
Tip #2 -Know Your Audience.
When telling your story it is crucial that you know who you are talking to. Many times out in the market place people tell stories about their product or services but they never take in account of who their audience are. For instance, If you are talking to a person who is interested in your product or services, you would not tell the story of how you generated a fast start bonus by enrolling 2 new distributors. That story focuses on money and their focus is your product or services you offer and its benefits in relation to their needs. So this is definitely something you want to keep in mind because I can share with you the countless customers I have lost because I wanted to share a story about the income I just earned, instead of discussing what they truly desired. This is very key and involves some personal development on your part!!
Tip #3-Speak with Conviction.
You can know your audience and have a great story but if you do not speak with conviction, then everything is lost. If you really sit back and think about it, would you want to do business with a person who talks like they are just going through the motions and do not care. Or would you rather do business with someone who is excited, aware and passionate when talking to you? Personally I rather do business with the passionate person and I am sure you would as well. So do you speak with conviction when telling your story? Does your passion show in your tonality and facial expressions? These are a few area to address as you begin to verbally talk to others.
So in closing, these 3 tips can really increase your business productivity if you practice and exercise them. If you just look inside of your current company at the high income earners or the distributors who sell alot of products and services, I can almost guarantee you that they are great story tellers.
