Everybody has a story to tell. You do too! Your life is made up of many little stories-often these stories can reveal the spiritual side of us.
Did you know that many times in the Bible we are admonished to tell our children and grandchildren about God's presence in our lives? What better way than through stories in a Scrapbook about your faith-called a "Faithbook"?
The Bible states: "...I will show you lessons from our history, stories handed down to us from former generations. I will reveal these truths to you so that you can describe these glorious deeds of Jehovah to your children, and tell them about the mighty miracles He did." Psalm 78:3-4 (TLB)
Stories Have Power
· We remember stories.
· We learn from stories.
· We share stories.
Why Should You Share Your Spiritual Story through a Faith Book?
Your Spiritual story is important. When I was a young mother, I understood that it was important to teach my son stories of faith about the Bible characters-Jonah and the Whale, David and Goliath, and the life of Jesus, Our Savior.
However, I did not understand how important it is for us to tell our children about God's presence in our lives today. As things happened in our lives we naturally talked about them.
When Samuel was young, he heard these stories. Now that he is an adult, I would think that he has forgotten some of those little vignettes from our lives. A written story would help the story to survive generation to generation.
Why Should You Tell Your Stories?
In Matthew, the disciples ask Jesus why He told stories. Jesus told them that not every person's heart would be ready to understand about God's kingdom. He said: "That's why I tell stories, to create readiness, to nudge the people toward receptive insight. In their present state they can stare till doomsday and not see it, listen till they're blue in the face and not get it." Matt 13:12 (The Message)
As a Christian, you want your child/grandchild to "get it." Today he may be too young to understand your Christian beliefs. But one day in the future when your story is read, the heart of the child may be tender and receptive. He will be at a more mature stage and will better understand your story of how you invited Jesus into your heart and what type of impact it had in your life.
You may also choose to write a three to four sentence story about the time your baby daughter had a high fever. You were so nervous but you kept praying as you drove her to the hospital. Relief swept over you and you knew God had answered your prayers when the doctor said she had an ear infection and would be fine with the antibiotics and some extra tender loving care.
By writing a three to four sentence story about how God answers your prayers in little matters as well as major events, you will be planting seeds about how God has worked in your life.
Whether your story is three or four sentences or three to four pages, the purpose remains the same in your faithbook-to share your story of God's presence in your life.
